Caledonian Challenge

A few of our pipers: Ian Mulholand; John Bissett; James Templeton and David Mitchell played at this years Caledonian Challenge on June 14/15th. Billy Hunter helped us out and made a welcome addition to our limited number.

It was a grueling weekend of playing hampered by swarms of midges (hence the head gear on the photo). Fortunately the the weather was good. Our pipers made a significant contribution to the moral of competitors mid way through, and as they finished the competition.

Visit from Askol ha Brug, France

Three Mini Bus 'loads' of pipers and Drummers from Askol ha Brug will be arriving in Saltcoats on the 8th August. During their time with us, most will be staying in accommodation in Saltcoats, right on the sea front, so hope for good weather.
The two bands will take part in a number of engagements during there stay. On the 9th August there will be a visit to Brodick, Isle of Arran for there Highland games then a visit on the 10th to Millport for a RBLS parade.

RSPBA Competitions 2008.

Sunday the 1st June found the Adult band at Girvan Lowland Games. Our Pipers and Drummers had an excellent day in spite of the rain and managed to gain a 2nd place in the Grade 4 Competition and also won the Grade 4 Branch Championship.

The following Sunday found both the Adult and Novice Juvenile Band at Ardrossan Highland Games where the N/J Band, on their first outing, obtained a third place and their first (of many,we hope) trophy. An excellent performance well done to all.

The adults were also again placed 2nd for Piping and Drumming in grade 4.

Well done to all and many thanks to all who manned our Fund raising stalls at Ardrossan.

Isle of Cumbrae Tartan

The Legion has arranged to have trews and waistcoats made for the bar staff in the Millport Club Bar. The Club Bar is now selling kilt pins, t-shirts etc.
